NORRAG selected as a member of INEE’s Education Policy Working Group

NORRAG’s application for membership in the INEE Education Policy Working Group (EPWG) for 2018-2020 has been accepted. Gita Steiner-Khamsi, Director, and Patrick Montjourides, Senior Researcher, are NORRAG’s representatives on the working group.

The Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) working groups are made up of institutional members with expertise in the various aspects of education in emergencies, coming from a range of international and local practitioner organisations. The working groups focus respectively on policy, advocacy, and standards and practice but work collectively to achieve the INEE strategic plan.

The EPWG focuses on building evidence and dialogue to ensure quality education is planned and implemented in situations of emergency and protracted crisis. Its work looks specifically at the policy-related aspects of education preparedness, planning, and provision. This includes the topic of evidence and data around education in emergencies policies, building consensus on EiE policy positions, providing resources and guidance for policy-makers and generally fulfilling INEE’s broader core functions of facilitating learning, knowledge sharing and communities of practice and policy in the area of education policy in contexts of emergency and protracted crisis.

NORRAG’s representatives will, in particular, lend their expertise in evidence building with the goal of improving data collection and use to increase funding support and inform strategic application in policy and practice. This involvement is in line with NORRAG’s strategic commitment to improving data collection and use in the humanitarian-development sector and the use of evidence to achieve the SDG agenda.

The first meeting of the Working Group is planned in Oslo, Norway, from the 14th to 16th of May 2018.
