World Teachers Day 2024 Online Discussion

Teacher Shortages in Emergency Settings: What we know, who is affected, and how we address the challenge – An online discussion to mark World Teachers’ Day 2024

#PrioritizeTeachers

Date: Tuesday October 1st, 2024

Time: 2.00pm – 3.00pm CET

Location: Online

Co-organised by NORRAG and the EiE Hub, this will be an interactive 60 minute open discussion to mark World Teachers Day 2024. The event will take UNESCO’s Global Report on Teachers as a scene setter, acknowledging the compounding effect of teacher shortages on children, youth, and adolescents amidst increasing conflict, forced displacement, and climate related risks.

Three guests, based on their organisation’s research and programming, will be invited to respond to the opening prompt: Are teachers prioritised in emergency settings? What we know and how we address the challenges. Following initial remarks, members will be invited to participate in the discussion that explores the politics, policies, and practices that define teachers’ work and education outcomes in emergency settings.

Speakers:

  • Danni Falk, Senior Researcher, ERICC / International Rescue Committee
  • Petra Heusser, Executive Director, Geneva Global Hub for Education in Emergencies
  • Chris Henderson, Education in Emergencies Specialist, NORRAG
  • Nina Papadopulos, Senior Advisor, UNHCR
  • Carlos Vargas Tamez, Head of the Secretariat, UNESCO Taskforce on Teachers for Education 2030
