RCCS Vietnam: Enhancing skills integration and teaching in GEC 2018

Rapid Customised Country Support (RCCS) is currently underway in Vietnam, as part of the KIX EMAP Hub’s activities in Southeast Asia. The RCCS aims to enhance the integration and teaching of essential skills as part of the country’s implementation of its 2018 General Education Curriculum (GEC 2018).

As part of this RCCS, a teacher training session was organised from 22-24 August in Nghe An, Vietnam. 30 teachers participated in the session, which included training on definitional frameworks for the three skills of critical thinking, creative thinking and collaboration delivered by experts from the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER), the partner for the RCCS, and training on strengthening skills education in academic subjects delivered by the national team leading the RCCS. The interactive training was received positively by the teachers, who reported having achieved a clear understanding of the skills’ definitions frameworks.

Based on experiences from the teacher training session, the national team leading this RCCS, comprising experts from the Ministry of Education and Training Department of Secondary Education, the Hanoi National University of Education, and Room to Read, will incorporate modifications to further strengthen the training design. Eventually, similar approaches will be applied to train teachers on integrating other essential skills included in the GEC 2018.

The KIX EMAP RCCS mechanism provides targeted support to countries to address specific policy challenges, with a focus on capacity strengthening and institutionalising learnings from regional peer exchange and learning activities. The RCCS in Vietnam builds on outcomes from a previous Learning Cycle on “Integration of 21st Century Skills in Curriculum” and aims to provide technical support to strengthen an exemplar skills teaching guide and teacher training programme.
