Event Highlights: DHIS2 for Education Conference and Academy 2024 in Sri Lanka
The District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2) for Education Conference and Academy took place in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 6-10 May, and was attended by approximately 100 participants, including representatives from provinces, districts and schools, at both the national and international level. The conference was a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the University of Oslo (a KIX research grantee), and HISP network nodes in Sri Lanka, Mozambique, Uganda, and Togo. The KIX EMAP Hub, a conference partner, supported the linkages with the KIX EMAP infrastructure in Sri Lanka, mobilised speakers and participants from the education sector and streamed the conference online via Zoom on 6 and 7 May.
The event opened with speeches from the State Minister of Education and the Dean of the University of Colombo. The conference focused on improving education data management for sector planning and resource allocation. International insights were shared beyond the education sector for instance, from the health sector. As a direct result of the event, the Sri Lanka Ministry of Education initiated discussions about progress on the digitalisation of education data at different levels.
