Hackathon: Mapping Marginalised Expertise across the Globe

NORRAG’s HACKATHON Mapping Marginalised Expertise across the Globe

 –

Location: Maison de La Paix (the Fab)

The NORRAG Hackathon aimed to map NORRAG’s efforts to give a platform to marginalised experts in education. In addition to promoting our initiative #TheSouthAlsoKnows, at NORRAG we also set ourselves ambitious internal targets to surface and amplify expertise from marginalised groups, particularly the Global South, in our knowledge products.
On February 21, students worked on data entry, analyzing NORRAG publications to catalogue and categorise publications, chapters and articles within them, and their authors, learning about databases, data structure and queries.
On February 28, participants collaborated in small groups to create interactive pages using Looker Studio, visualising the data they had previously entered into geographic maps, graphs, directories, topics and keywords.
Beyond the hands-on experience and learning, students enjoyed meaningful exchanges with peers and the NORRAG team, and the opportunity to contribute to an impactful project. Their efforts will be recognised with a certificate and acknowledgment on NORRAG’s website as contributors.
