Faculty Search: Lecturer or Visiting Professor for Academic Year 2021-2022 Program in International & Comparative Education

Position

The Program in International and Comparative Education (ICE) at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, is seeking a full-time lecturer or visiting professor in international educational development with a specialization in policy studies and planning. This is an open-rank position. The title of Lecturer is reserved for the successful applicant without a prior academic appointment or without a professorial title. The title of Visiting Professor is for a successful applicant who uses their sabbatical for this opportunity or are recently retired professors.

Responsibilities

• The Lecturer position is a nine-month position; the lecturer will teach five courses, provide academic advising to M.A. students in the ICE program, carry out program-related work, and be expected to contribute to the overall operations of the program.
• The Visiting Professor position is for spring 2022; the visiting professor will teach two courses, provide academic advising to M.A. students in the ICE program, carry out program-related work, and be expected to contribute to the overall operations of the program.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following:

• Earned doctorate in international and comparative education and/or a related social science discipline (especially, political science or sociology);
• Demonstrated strength in innovative research methods, such as trend analysis, educational indicators research, and cross-national analysis;
• Evidence of successful university teaching;
• Ability to teach core courses in international and comparative education and courses that are related to comparative policy studies (e.g., cross-national comparison, global governance in education, international theories of the policy process) and international planning (e.g., sector reviews, baseline studies, benchmarking, monitoring and evaluation, aid effectiveness evaluation, strategic planning);
• Professional experience in project work in developing countries.
