Job Board: The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) is building its management team

The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) is recruiting different roles to build a management team that will implement its vision to serve the needs of Member States, ensuring that their policies and decision-making are informed by sound statistical information, that they can benchmark progress towards national and international goals, and learn from the experience of others.

Established in 1999, the UIS serves as UNESCO’s statistical agency. The UIS is focused on delivering cross-nationally comparable data for global, regional and development agendas, covering the fields of education, science, culture, and communication and information.

 

SENIOR COMMUNICATION OFFICER

Working under the overall authority and supervision of the UIS Director, the Senior Communication Officer leads the Communication and Advocacy Unit of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics. She/he is responsible for developing the Institute’s communications and advocacy strategy in an integrated manner, and implementing it through impactful, coordinated evidence-based campaigns which promote a culture of data use.

HEAD OF SECTION (EDUCATION IN ADMINISTRATIVE DATA)

The Head of the Education Section on Administrative data contributes to strengthening the coverage of the UIS Core System of Education Indicators and is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and supervising the production of education administrative data at the highest level of quality. The incumbent will work under the overall authority and supervision of the UIS Director.

SENIOR REGIONAL ADVISOR (STATISTICS)

This position is part of the Regional Field Network Unit of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and leads the UIS team in Africa. The Senior Regional Advisor is responsible for providing strategic advice and support to regional, sub-regional and national authorities and/or organizations in UIS’s fields of competence in order to improve the quality of data in Africa. Contributing to the implementation and monitoring of UIS strategy in the region. the incumbent provides technical assistance and methodological guidance to build statistical capacity, in particular strengthening SDGs monitoring, including through securing national commitments to SDG4 benchmarks.

HEAD OF SECTION (RESEARCH AND INNOVATION IN MONITORING EDUCATION)

Under the overall authority and supervision of the Director of UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the Head of Section (Research and Innovation in Monitoring Education) will contribute substantially to the concept, utilization, design, implementation, and quality assurance of all the UIS education statistics, including via the use of alternative data sources and other innovation. The incubent will be part of the UIS senior staff management team, playing a key role in developing the public profile of the institution’s knowledge, work and outreach to a broad range of external stakeholders.
