Topic(s): INEE Minimum Standards
Since the last update of the INEE Minimum Standards (INEE MS) in 2010, the field of education in emergencies has changed significantly. Given their critical importance for the field of education in emergencies, ensuring that the INEE Minimum Standards reflect evolving issues, themes, and contexts in the humanitarian ecosystem is essential for delivering quality, safe, and relevant education in all emergency and crisis contexts.
In December 2019, INEE, along with UNICEF and UNESCO, publicly pledged at the Global Refugee Forum to undertake this review and update the INEE MS. By doing so, INEE committed itself formally to ensuring that the INEE MS will continue to support the fulfillment of the right to education in crisis contexts, and specifically the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), the Incheon Declaration and Framework for Action, Refugee Education 2030, and Global Compact on Refugees.
This hybrid event will showcase the INEE Minimum Standards, 2024 Edition, and the broad consultative process that informed it. It will foster a space for dynamic and critical discussion around key developments and learning in EiE over the last decade, how these diverse perspectives have been reflected in the updated handbook, and the role of the INEE MS in supporting education stakeholders across the globe in upholding the right to education at all times.
This event will be conducted in English. The English version of the handbook will be presented during the event. Translations of the INEE MS into Arabic, Spanish, French, and Portuguese are forthcoming.
