New GPE KIX Regional Observatories in the EMAP Region

The Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX) has established Regional Observatories on Education Systems Resilience. These Regional Observatories cover a wide range of GPE-partner countries, with four in the EMAP region.

The Regional Observatories, which are part of the larger GPE KIX initiative, aim to examine the meanings and practices of education system resilience and potential future disruptions to education systems in GPE partner countries. Consultations with education stakeholders in GPE partner countries highlighted the challenge of addressing immediate disruptions to education systems while also preparing for future potential shocks, such as climate change, technological disruptions, conflict, and displacement.

Detailed information about each Regional Observatory is available on the project pages:

  • GPE KIX Regional Observatory on Education Systems Resilience for East, West, Central, and Southern Africa
    • KIX EMAP countries: Sudan
    • Additional countries: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
    • Implementing organisation: Makerere University School of Public Health – Resilient Africa Network (Uganda), in collaboration with Link Community Development Uganda (Uganda) and Dalhousie University (Canada)
  • GPE KIX Regional Observatory on Education Systems Resilience for South Asia and Southeast Asia
    • The partner in South and Southeast Asia will be announced soon.

In these contexts, each Regional Observatory will generate evidence and research, which can support efforts to build education systems that can adapt to ongoing and future disruptions. It will examine how stakeholders in each region understand and practice education system resilience, explore anticipated challenges, and identify strategies to address them. The project will last until March 2027.
