NORRAG's Continuous Support to the United Nations
NORRAG has supported, and continues to support, the United Nations (UN) by collaborating with different UN Agencies and Programmes. We proudly supports the United Nations’ mission by collaborating with key UN agencies and programs to advance global education and sustainable development. Through partnerships with entities such as the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, UNESCO-IIEP, UNESCO Global Education Meeting, and many more, NORRAG contributes expertise and research to initiatives focused on inclusive, equitable education systems and policy development. Together, we work to strengthen global efforts that address pressing educational challenges and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
In the recent years, this support took the form of different activities, including:
- Publishing contributions to NORRAG publications (NSI, Policy Insights, books, and more) and blog including from UNGEI Girls’ Education Initiative; UNESCO Institute for Statistics, GEM Report, and Teacher Task Force; UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education; UN Secretary-General’s AI Advisory Body.
- Hosting and Collaborating: Including co-organizing events with UNESCO, UNICEF; featuring research from UN agencies in NORRAG webinars.
- Professional Development in collaboration with UNESCO-IIEP to provide professional development opportunities for professionals throughout all levels of education systems.
- Expert Meetings to support UN processes, for example with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education.
- Side Events, for example at the UN General Assembly, and the UN Human Rights Council.
- Collaborative Research and evidence gathering, collaborating with UN agencies on various publications.
- Keynote speeches and panel Moderation at UN-related events.
- Participation in Global Fora, such as UN World Data Fora, Global Refugee Fora, and Policy Dialogues for UNESCO Teacher Task Force.
- Summit Organization, for example the 2019 and 2023 Education in Emergencies (EiE) Data & Evidence Summits with UNESCO, UNHCR, UNICEF, and UNRWA.
- Improving evidence use: Commissioned by UNESCO SDG4 High-level Steering Committee to produce a study on using evidence in policy.
- Consultations and Workshops for the UNESCO GEM Report, Futures of Education, and UN Special Rapporteur.
- Expert Group Participation, for example in UNESCO ISCED-T expert group, contributing to standards for teacher training programs.
- Knowledge Sharing by contributing to publications and consultations for multiple UN agencies, including UN ECOSOC SDG Division, UNESCO GEM reports.
- Conducted analytical reports on results-based financing in collaboration with the World Bank and other UN agencies.
