Rapid Customised Country Support in Vietnam

In 2021, a team of six experts from Vietnam, including representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training Department of Secondary Education (MoET DoSE), Vietnam National Institute of Education Sciences, and Room to Read, participated in the Learning Cycle on “Integration of 21st Century Skills in Curriculum” facilitated by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and produced a report on “Better Skills Development in the Vietnam 2018 General Education Curriculum (GEC 2018).”

Using the knowledge and skills from the Learning Cycle, the MoET DoSE and Room to Read, with support from the Hanoi National University of Education, conducted a review of the integration of skills within the implementation of GEC 2018. The team developed the first version of a skills teaching guide and training programme, which were tested in the field with 30 core trainers from three provinces: Tuyen Quang, Nghe An, and Ca Mau.

Following this, the MoET DoSE requested a Rapid Customised Country Support (RCCS) activity to strengthen the skills teaching guide and teacher training programme. Following their Learning Cycle facilitation, ACER will serve as a partner for this RCCS activity. The main goal of this RCCS is to strengthen the capacity, ongoing work, and the development of deliverables of the team of national experts from the MoET DoSE, Hanoi National University of Education, and Room to Read in enhancing skills integration and teaching in GEC 2018.

The RCCS will focus on selected skills while demonstrating the approach and strengthening the capacity of the national team to implement the revisions on the remainder of the essential skills. In doing so, it will fulfil three objectives:

  1. Support the improvement of the technical content of the skills teaching guide.
  2. Support the enhancement of the teacher training program design.
  3. Provide suggestions on scaling/expanding the skills teaching guide to other subjects and geographies across the country.
