UNESCO-IBE supporting the 2023 Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights, and Sustainable Development 22-24 May 2024

NORRAG’s Executive Director, Moira Faul was invited to participate in a UNESCO-IBE expert meeting in Geneva to develop a Reader supporting the 2023 Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights, and Sustainable Development. Experts from around the world contributed insights. 

This work aims to contribute to “the new UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace and Human Rights, International Understanding, Cooperation, Fundamental Freedoms, Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development, which is commonly referred to as the Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development is a landmark guidance document that defines what needs to evolve in and through education to accomplish these goals”.

In addition to commenting on other themes raised in the meeting, Moira gave a presentation on the promises and pitfalls of the rise of AI in and for education and digital inequalities, referring to NORRAG’s recent Policy Insights publication AI and Digital Inequities. 

“AI in society is not a binary on/off. But the question of how we can prevent AI from reflecting and reinforcing existing inequities must be answered.
